From Nafplion, Greece: Mycenae & Nemea Walking Tour with a Wine Lunch in the Vineyards
9:45am: Tender in from the ship to meet our English-speaking guide at the end of the gangplank in the port in Nafplion at 10:00am. We begin our tour with a drive of the Peloponnese Peninsula. Our first stop is the famous citadel of Mycenae. High above the confluence of two boulder-strewn ravines, Mycenae is entered via the Argos Plain by way of the Lion Gate, Europe’s oldest piece of monumental statuary. Explore the Royal Palace, the shaft graves and the remains of the city walls. Our guide will share an archaeological briefing within the Treasury of Artreus. We then continue north to the Peloponnese wine region in Nemea to visit Aivalis organic wine estate where we will enjoy a sampling of the local wines and a tasting paired with lunch under the vines. We return to the seafront of Nafplion where you are free to explore the charming village and time for shopping. Around Syntagma (Constitution) Square are some of Nafplion’s top sights including the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation Museum, St. Spyridon Church and the Archaeological Museum. When the time comes make your way to the tender back to the ship. Ship sails at 8pm.
