Valletta

A Taste of Malta with Lunch
9am to 5pm
9am: Valletta, Malta’s capital and a World Heritage site, is nothing short of an open-air museum, a living experience of Baroque architecture, a monument donated by the Knights of St John nearly five centuries ago. Dotted with quaint cafes and wine bars, Valletta hosts the majestic St John’s Co-Cathedral, the imposing bastions and a treasure of priceless paintings. Palazzo Parisio, in Naxxar is justifiably described as ‘a miniature Versailles’. In its time it has been the residence of the most popular Grand Master of the Knights of St John (the ‘Knights of Malta’), of Sicilian and Maltese nobility. Behind its relatively modest façade is a flamboyant lavishly decorated in exuberant style by the finest and most eminent craftsmen of the centuries. This country home for a noble family is rich with fine frescoes, trompes l’oeil, rare paintings and extravagant gilding. The internationally recognized landscaped gardens are acclaimed as being among the finest in Europe. Next a family welcomes us to their farm for lunch of Malta’s most iconic cuisine at Diar il Bniet in Dingli. We will end our day in the fortified and walled town of Mdina, known as “Quiet village”- the highest point on the island offering magnificent views. The old capitals earliest inhabitants date back to 4000 BC. Late afternoon return to the port of Valletta for free time.
