“To witness that calm rhythm of life revives our worn souls and recaptures a feeling of belonging to the natural world. No one can return from the Serengeti unchanged, tawny lions will forever prowl our memory and great herds throng our imagination.” -George Schaller

Luxury Safari in Africa

Your luxury safari in Africa begins early, with a hot mug of coffee or tea delivered to you in bed. Outside, the sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon, and you emerge from your tent to behold a landscape that is stunning in its vastness and tranquility. Fortified against the early morning chill, board your safari vehicle with your driver/guide and set out on the first of the day’s game drives. While each area has its own distinct wildlife population, there is little predicting what you will see in the bush. Elephant may gather around a watering hole; a pair of male cheetah may be seen scanning the surroundings for signs of prey; hyena, perhaps, tear into an early-morning kill; and herds of grazing giraffe and zebra may march across the plains. Your experienced guide has a sixth sense when it comes to wildlife and never fails to get you into the heart of the action. After a few hours of game viewing, stop for breakfast, either back at your camp or at a table laid specially for you in the wild.

In Africa, the animals lie low during the mid-day heat, so you do, too. Back at camp, take a nap, grab a book from the common tent or simply relax on your private veranda. Later in the afternoon, set out on a second game drive, maybe combining wildlife viewing with a visit to a Maasai or Samburu village or a local philanthropic project. As the sun starts to set, perhaps stop at a scenic spot for a sundowner cocktail before returning to camp. Dinner in the bush is always an event, with freshly prepared, multi-course meals served at an elegantly set table. After dinner, gather around the campfire for stories and stargazing, or retire in preparation for another inspiring day on luxury safari in Africa.

Southern Africa

The diversity of luxury travel and safari opportunities in Southern Africa is immense. A trip to South Africa not only shows you the country’s eclectic cultural mix and widely varied landscapes, but it also offers you excellent safari game viewing. Travel in open four-wheel-drive vehicles for unobstructed views of the bush. On a Southern Africa safari, stay in some of the country’s best luxury lodges with opportunities to spot game from the front door. For a different experience, head down through the Cape Winelands to sample varietals of South Africa’s premium wines. In Cape Town, discover luxury hotels, a gorgeous harbor and top restaurants and shopping.

View Zambia’s wildlife on walking safari tours and on leisurely boat rides on the Zambezi River. Don’t miss the spectacular cascades of Victoria Falls, the jewel of Southern Africa and a natural wonder shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Botswana’s luxury camps and lodges are consistently named the world’s best, and a safari here takes you deep into the Okavango Delta — a hidden oasis in an otherwise water-starved land – to spot the local wildlife. Go on a Southern Africa safari tour in Botswana’s Chobe National Park to see the highest concentration of elephants in South Africa.

A Namibia safari may take you out on an ATV over red desert dunes or soaring across the Skeleton Coast in search of shipwrecks. Take a safari game drive through the lush savannah of Etosha National Park, home to Southern African plains game such as giraffes, wildebeests and zebras.

East Africa

Our East African safaris offer a wild world waiting to be discovered with stays in luxury camps and lodges. Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara host the annual Great Migration, a unique spectacle that occurs as huge herds of wildebeests and zebras follow the fresh grazing that sprouts in the wake of the annual rains. On safaris in Kenya’s northern regions, spot local species including the endangered black rhino, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra and the long-necked gerenuk. Travel on an East African A&K luxury safari to Tanzania, where you can visit the Ngorongoro Crater, formed by the collapse of an extinct volcano, where more than 30,000 animals thrive in enclosed grassland.

Intrepid travellers may experience a different side of East Africa with a safari in Uganda, where chimpanzees and mountain gorillas live free in the forests. Track a family of gorillas with your expert guide on two days of safari trekking that find you blazing a path through the thick forest and climbing rugged hills. This unique but challenging safari offers an unforgettable way to connect with the endangered mountain gorilla.
