Itinerary

Day 1
Aug 23: CIVITAVECCHIA, ITALY - Casual attire - Embark ship from 1pm

All roads lead to Rome, and with good reason – this city is one of the world’s most thrilling, offering unmatched history along every street. An evocative, inspiring and utterly artistic capital of unrivalled cultural impact, Rome is a city of back-to-back landmarks, which will take you on an exhilarating journey through the ages. This may be one of the world’s oldest cities, but it’s well and truly lived in. The ruins are punctuated with murmuring cafes, and the outdoor seating of restaurants sprawls out across piazzas, enticing you to sample tangles of creamy pasta and crispy pizzas. Rome’s incredible Roman Forum is littered with the ruins of its ancient administrations, which have stood firm for 2,000 years, since the times when the area was the centre of the Western world. Few sites are more simultaneously beautiful and haunting than that of the storied Colosseum, which looms deep into Rome’s rich blue sky.

10a Optional transfer from Rome Central hotel to visit to family farm and vineyard enroute to ship with wine-tasting, cooking demonstration, and slow-cooked farm-to-table lunch poolside (fee)*
715p Moone-Tsai & Grasing’s Welcome Reception & Wine Dinner in La Terrazza *

Day 2
Aug 24: SORRENTO, Amalfi Coast, Isle of Capri, ITALY

Sorrento’s colourful, sun-faded facades cascade down from green hills and cliffs to the Bay of Naples’ gently lapping waters. The perfect base for exploring this Italian corner of outstanding natural beauty, venture to the curvaceous roads of the Amalfi coast – or enjoy leisurely jaunts across the shimmering waves to Capri’s gem of an island. While it makes for a fantastic jumping-off point, Sorrento itself has oodles of rustic fishing town charm, so don’t rush off too quickly. Piazza Tasso is the locals’ main meeting spot and a starting point for a wander through the picturesque streets. Throw back a quick espresso caffeine kick at a standing cafe, before strolling through Corso Italia – Sorrento’s spine – which is lined with boutiques, museums, bars and restaurants. The historic Church of San Francesco blossoms with colourful celebrations of weddings, which spill out into its gorgeous ivy-tangled cloisters.

Optional full day tour along the Amalfi Coast – boat-ride to Positano, with wine-paired lunch (fee)*

Day 3
Aug 25: SORRENTO, Amalfi Coast, isle of Capri, ITALY - CAPTAINS FORMAL

Day 4
Aug 26: SIRACUSA, SICILY, ITALY

Honey-coloured Siracusa is a staggering UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an extraordinary Sicilian city of immense ancient history. The modern population is a fraction of what it was at the city’s heyday around 400 BC, when Athens’ might was successfully challenged and faced down, reinforcing the city’s incredible power and status. Siracusa’s historical nucleus waits to be discovered on the compact islet of Ortygia. The city was founded here, but grew over time, spreading across to the mainland. A small channel separates the two, which is now spanned by twin bridges. Wander the atmospheric streets of this time warp, to reach the shining elegance of Piazza Duomo. The Baroque cathedral rises like a giant sandcastle, and you can settle opposite to cradle a glass of wine and enjoy the view over the immaculate square – people watching before the glorious baroque façade. Dig deep into its history at the mainland’s archaeological park.

7:30pm: Champagne Reception followed by Moone-Tsai & Grasing Gala 5-course Wine Dinner in La Dame by Relais & Chateaux (½ group)* Jacket suggested

Day 5
Aug 27: CORFU, GREECE

This sickle-shaped island of Mediterranean bliss flaunts its sun-kissed sophistication with effortless grace – having cherry-picked the best influences from Venetian, French and British occupiers. With over 3,000 years of history, The Grand Lady of the Ionian has played a starring role in Greek history and mythology, and legendary tales swirl around you, as you explore sparkling beaches, mountains splashed with wildflowers, and historical, perched fortresses. The soft hues of Corfu’s UNESCO World Heritage List Old Town brings together Corfu’s mesh of European influences, with its romantic stone floors and vine-clad cafes. Find somewhere to settle in for a morning coffee ritual like a true Corfiat, and sip at the laid-back pace of the locals – allowing the thick bitter concoction to settle before indulging.

11am: Moone-Tsai Wine Tasting paired to Chef Kurt Grasing’s cooking demo (before arriving to Corfu)*

Day 6
Aug 28: CORFU, GREECE

Day 7
Aug 29: KOTOR, MONTENEGRO

Wakeup sail along Europe’s southernmost fjord!

Embedded into the slopes of the steep Lovćen mountain, and overlooking the deep blue Adriatic, the fortified town of Kotor boasts a spectacular, imposing staging that few can match. Squeezing in through the tight Bay of Kotor is a daunting and impressive approach in itself, as you arrive via the waterway of Europe’s most southerly fjord. A pearl of Montenegro and the Adriatic, Kotor’s warren-like streets drip with history and authenticity. Under Venetian influence for four centuries, the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site old town invites you to wander amid atmospheric stone-clad streets, overlooked by a sea of terracotta roofs and the double towers of the cathedral. Protected by thick stone walls – and the mountains behind – Kotor draws comparisons with another fortified Adriatic wonder in Dubrovnik. Many favour Kotor for its compact layout, smaller crowds, and authenticity, however – having been spared from shelling during Yugoslavia’s breakup.

Optional Walking tour followed by Dalmation wine-tasting at Port of Montenegro (fee)*
8p Evening Moone-Tsai & Grasing’s Group Dinner in Silver Note*

Day 8
Aug 30: DUBROVNIK, CROATIA

Croatia’s crowning glory rears up vertically from the tranquil waters of the Adriatic, and Dubrovnik’s daunting fortresses town is a truly imposing sight to behold. Encircled by chunky stone walls so thick and dramatic they could have been purpose-built as a film set, this city’s unmatched old town is the setting for countless films and shows – from Star Wars to Robin Hood, Game of Thrones and every production in-between seeking a truly authentic medieval flavour. This fantasy fortress’s walls – which are no less than 12-metres thick at places – are certainly not just for show, however. They kept Dubrovnik safe when it was a maritime republic and they were besieged as recently as 1991, when Serbian and Montenegrin forces attacked, as Yugoslavia broke apart. Fully restored now, the stone streets of the city take you through a beautiful mosaic of architectural splendour, baroque churches and splashing fountains.

Optional Walking tour, cable ride, wine lunch at country chalet (fee)*

Day 9
Aug 31: SPLIT, CROATIA

Bathing in the Dalmatian Coast’s generous sunshine, and overlooking sparkling, island-studded waters, Split is a city of romantic beauty, built around an extraordinary – still beating – historical heart. The setting may be spectacular, but it’s the Diocletian’s Palace – a Roman remain of incredible scale and detail that is truly bewitching. While immensely historic, Split hasn’t been afraid to move with the times, and the stone walls encasing the streets are alive with buzzy bars and quiet nooks, where bottles of red wine are uncorked and delicious meals devoured. With a natural backdrop of dramatic limestone mountains, and Croatia’s trademark scenic wonders all around, Split is a true heavyweight of the Adriatic. To enter Split’s Diocletian’s Palace is to step into a beautiful time warp. Head first to the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, where a hollow bell tower rockets up, puncturing the sky.

8p Moone-Tsai & Grasing’s Wine Dinner in SALT Kitchen *

Day 10
Sept 1: VENICE, ITALY

Losing none of its allure over the years, this floating city of canals, bridges and masks is a place of eternal beauty and enduring elegance. The lagoon of more than 100 islands is a heavenly sight, transporting visitors on a journey through time – from its Roman inception, through centuries of trade to the modern face we see today. Navigate Venice’s sparkling waterways by romantic gondola, or on cruises along wide canal boulevards. Span the Grand Canal over its iconic original crossing, the Rialto Bridge, which – with its parade of tiny shops – gives some of the city’s most endearing views. Hurry to Piazza San Marco to be immersed in Venice’s elegant glory. Basilica San Marco transports you back to the wealthy days of the Doges, who ruled for over 1,000 years.

8p Moone-Tsai & Grasing’s Farewell reception and Wine Dinner poolside in Hot Rocks Grill *

Moone-Tsai Wines and Grasing’s Restaurant

MaryAnn Tsai, Co-Founder & Owner

Growing up in a spirited Italian family in Boston, Massachusetts, MaryAnn spent summers helping her grandmother tend a verdant garden featuring rows of vegetables, herbs, and an especially precious vineyard. From the last of these, the family celebrated the rite of winemaking; a tradition that young MaryAnn did not fully appreciate until years later.

During her college years, MaryAnn found herself again ensconced in vineyards; this time in a study-abroad program at the University of Angers, France. Located in the glorious Loire Valley, the idyllic town of Angers epitomized French country living and was the perfect place to spark a willing palate for simple, but well-crafted wines and inspired cuisine. It was here that MaryAnn caught “the bug” that would fuel her interest in wines, and ultimately inspire her move to Napa Valley, her graduation from Harvard Business School, and the launch of a wonderful career in the wine industry.

Hired by Mike Moone to join Beringer Wine Estates in 1989, MaryAnn realized a long-standing dream to live and work in the legendary Napa Valley. During this time, and over the next 20+ years, she was involved with producing notable wines and brands, three of which earned the distinction of being named as “Wine Spectator’s #1-rated Wine in the World”. With the creation of Moone-Tsai wines in 2006, MaryAnn and Larry have set their sights on earning a fourth #1 rating…under the Moone-Tsai banner. Alongside their shared pursuit of this grand-vins endeavor, MaryAnn and Larry are especially proud to raise their two daughters in the fabled Napa Valley wine country that they are pleased to call home.

Larry Tsai, Co-Founder & Owner

As a first generation Chinese-American boy growing up in the lively North Shore neighborhoods of New York’s Long Island, Larry held a peculiar fascination for the “yin-yang” that one might confer upon the daily experience. Indeed, in an environment where conventions frequently compelled forced choices (Yankees v. Mets; Ginger v. Maryann; dim sum vs. lox & bagels; etc.), he often instead strayed to permutations of the many possibilities lying therein, and beyond.

While this fascination might have led him to distraction, he was able to synthesize this into a world view that would prepare him for the many opportunities that awaited him in college, and later, in his professional and personal life. After earning degrees at Princeton and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Larry embarked on a variegated career that enabled him to indulge his intertwining interests in wine, food, and the arts.

By way of his experiences across Fortune 500 companies, and atop emerging gourmet/food/lifestyle enterprises and Napa Valley non-profits; Larry has combined his management skills with a calling to create and deliver extraordinary wines and experiences that support the Moone-Tsai credo.

Since taking the winery’s helm in 2010, Larry has moved Moone-Tsai from its single-cabernet-infancy to the brand’s current annual production of seven acclaimed wines across 3,000 cases, with distribution in selected U.S. markets and abroad. Along the way, he has found that the simple pleasure of connecting with people who enjoy well-crafted wines is nothing less than divine. Teaching and tasting with the newly impassioned to the more studied and discerning; from Baton Rouge to Bali, Seoul to Sun Valley, Jackson Hole to Jakarta, and Manhattan to Mumbai; he is reminded of the axiom that posits how adept that Napa Valley wines can be in bringing together people over good times and fine conversation.

Headshot (Current)Chef Kurt Grasing, Proprietor of Grasing’s Restaurant

Growing up in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, Kurt’s love of food began from an early age. While other children may have hosted lemonade stands on the corner of their neighborhood, Kurt saved up to buy raspberry bushes, so he could harvest the berries to sell to neighbors. He began to experiment with culinary techniques by cooking apples from the family apple trees, testing out different cooking methods (four to be exact) to study the results. Kurt has always gravitated to great tasting food, with his love for food and entrepreneurial mind Kurt set out on what would be a career that has spanned almost four decades.

Kurt has had the opportunity to work in some of the finest restaurants in the world. His apprenticeship began at the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. After his apprenticeship he refined his craft at Narsai’s in Berkeley, first as a saucier and then as chef. Kurt then had the chance to move to the east coast to work at the Pierre Hotel in New York as the Executive Sous Chef. In the years that followed he was at the three-star La Gavroche in London and Four Seasons in Boston. He returned to the west coast in 1986 to open 231 Ellsworth in San Mateo, which was soon considered one of the top restaurants in California during his time. One highlight of Kurt’s career was to do a cooking show with Julia Child, an icon in American cooking history and early role model for him.  She was an inspiration to millions and helped shape Kurt’s lifelong love of food.  It was a once in a lifetime experience and one he will always treasure.

In March of 1998 Kurt opened the door to his namesake restaurant: Grasing’s in Carmel. A Carmel classic for over two decades, Grasing’s restaurant has provided Kurt the opportunity to allow his love for food and entrepreneurial mind continue to develop. Grasing’s has expanded over the years to include additional dining space and the popular bar/lounge space. Kurt has also extended his love for food to include jet catering for private planes coming in and out of Monterey and now you may see Kurt around town in the Grasing’s van as he adds additional catering services available to the Monterey Peninsula!

An espresso awakens your mind, a walk invigorates your body, the beauty of the countryside livens your soul. Step up to prepare homemade gnocchi and fettuccine, sample wines in the cellar’s ancient cantina casks, walk the vineyard, pick vegetables from the garden, toss your pizza into the wood-burning oven, take a dip in the pool and watch a veritable farm-to-table feast be prepared and served with estate grown white, red and sparkling wines. Next we board our boat (weather permitting) for a whales eye view from the sea to the picturesque village of Positano, Italy’s most vertical town. Positano spills down from the corniche like a waterfall of pink, cream and yellow villa’s. Free time to sun on the beach, swim in the sea, or shop the boutiques & art galleries before our drive back to Sorrento. Ship overnights in port.

August 25 from Sorrento – 2 Excursions to Choose From!

1 of 2: Isle of Capri by Private Boat: 8:45am-3:00pm; Pricing: TBD
Take the 8:30am tender into Sorrento to begin our small boat ride to the enchanting isle of Capri. Capri’s coastline is punctuated with hidden caves, secluded beaches and island vistas that are incredibly varied with breathtaking landscapes that never fail to astound. Our excursion includes a professional local captain and his private boat for 10 guests. From Piano di Sorrento, jet along the Sorrentine Coast to the ancient fishermen village of “Marina Grande”, the ruins of a roman villa near “Bagni della Regina Giovanna”, the natural waterfall in the deep blue Mediterranean Sea.

We will circumnavigate Capri, stopping to visit the Marvelous Grotto, the White Grotto, the Green Grotto, the Natural Arch, the Villa Curzio Malaparte, the Faraglioni rocks and the Lighthouse of Punta Carena. There will be stops for swimming and snorkeling, and snacks and drinks on board. Once ashore, you have ample free time for lunch (on own) and to.explore Capri’ chic boutiques with the help of an audio guide. We recommend you hire one of Capri’s unique ‘cabriolet cabbies’ for a drive up to AnaCapri, and to Capri’s center mid-island. In the afternoon head back to the port to depart from Capri to Sorrento with happy hour and limoncello tasting. Sea conditions permitting. Return to the port and tender back to.the ship.

Bathing suit recommended.  Ship sails at 4pm. Minimum and maximum of 10 guests per boat.

2 of 2: Pompeii’s Oplontis Villa, Cooking Class & Wine Lunch: 9:00am-3:00pm; Pricing: TBD
Take the 8:45am tender into Sorrento. Pompeii and Oplontis were both destroyed in the mighty blasts of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Today we will visit this other archaeological site near the town of Torre Annunziata, to view the elaborate ruins and frescoes called Oplontis, the villa of Poppea, the mistress of Roman Emperor Nero. The villa was not totally destroyed as in Pompeii, but buried by a light ash that actually preserved rather than destroyed some of the frescoes.  After a short visit we are off to spend the afternoon at a local family’s vineyard. We don our aprons for a hands on cooking lesson to make homemade “gnocchi” pasta from potatoes. Afterwards we walk the vineyards while lunch is prepared; before we sit to savor a slow food, home grown, farm-to-table lunch, accompanied by the pairing of five wine varieties from their Sorrentine Estate; today is all about what this region is all about. In the afternoon we head back to Sorrento. Ship sails at 4pm.

August 30,  from Dubrovnik, Croatia: 10:00am-3:00pm
Walking tour – Cable ride – Croatian Fireside Lunch with Wine & Beer
Pricing: TBD

Take the 9:45am tender to meet our English-speaking guide for a 1-hour walking tour of historic medieval Old Town Dubrovnik. Afterwards our private minivans will whisk us away for a scenic coastal drive to our favorite Croatian countryside firehouse restaurant in a remote forested area. An authentic Croatian lunch of local specialties is served outdoors with charcuterie of local meats and cheese, vegetable salad, and the infamous roasted meats with the most flavorful potatoes you will ever savor, all cooked in the oak wood coals “under the dome” with fresh baked bread and dessert. Regional wine, beer and brandy will also be served.

After a photo-op, we ‘skip-the-line’ for a spectacular cable car tram ride from the top of Mt Srd mountain ridge for a breathtaking view of the craggy Dalmatian Coast, walled villas and numerous islands in the crystal clear Adriatic Sea as we float our way back to the Old City of Dubrovnik. From here a short walk brings us back to the walled entrance where you may return to the ship on your own, or continue shopping Old Town, choose to walk the perimeter wall; or join Michael who will take you to the hidden seaside bar on the rocks overlooking the sea ( we recommend wearing a bathing). Tender back to the ship from Dubrovnik on your own every 30 minutes. Ship sails at 11pm.
